About Me

Hi there, I'm Laura and I created Fat Grrl Hiking to help people like me have an awesome time hiking.

I am a fat woman. I weigh 300+ pounds, and in the past I've let that keep me from doing all the things I've wanted to do. There are times when I've felt really intimidated and scared to get out there and try hiking. I worried that it would be too difficult and I would not be able to complete a trail. I was scared everyone would be super skinny and  way more fit than me. I didn't want anyone to give me the side-eye like I've experienced at the gym.

So here's the deal: I am going to hike as much as I can and come back here to report on a few things.

  1. Hiking tips, tools, and techniques that are especially helpful for those who are out of shape and/or fat
  2. Specific details and notes about trails I hike. I'll include information about accessibility, intensity level, and helpful hints to make your hike easier
  3. Reviews of clothing and camping/hiking accessories that I try out

That's all what I have planned right now. In the future I'd also like to get guest posters on here talking about trails in their area. I live in Texas, so much of what I write about will be Lone Star State specific. It would be awesome to get people from other areas on here to discuss details about trails in their neck of the woods.
